A Must Use House Cleaning Checklist

Did you know that there are a lot of homeowners who can be considered obsessive house cleaners? The first one is the type of homeowner who cannot stand the mess, dirt and grime that he or she spends almost all the time cleaning the house. The second type is someone who constantly puts off the housework, and only surrenders to doing the task when the stench or mess in the house is barely tolerable.

So how do you create a balance between these two? The general rule of thumb is for you to immediately do the tasks which take longer to clean the more that you put them off. Having a regular cleaning schedule also helps, as well as creating a house cleaning checklist.

Let's say that you constantly put off doing the dishes. Aside from allowing bacteria to grow from all that leftover food, this particular cleaning task will just take longer to finish if you let the stain sit on the plate.

Transform Your Home into a Comfy Haven with this House Cleaning Checklist

Basically, you can divide your checklist into how frequent each housekeeping task should be done. For example, itemize the tasks that need to be done daily, bi-weekly, weekly and monthly.

To give you an idea, here's a sample house cleaning checklist that you can use.

Weekly Tasks:

  • Clean the living room.
  • Clean the children's bedroom/playroom.
  • Clean your home office.
  • Clean the porch/patio/outdoor sitting area.
  • Change bed linens and bathroom towels.
  • Vacuum the floor.
  • Thoroughly clean the bathroom.
  • Dust the top shelves.
  • Do the laundry.
  • Iron the clothes.

As you can see, this house cleaning checklist itemizes the particular tasks that need to be done on a weekly basis. For the daily list, what you can do is post a schedule on the refrigerator. If you have kids, you probably can come up with an agreement as to which kid will do the dishes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and so on.

You should also include the occasional cleaning tasks that you might forget - which includes the not-so-often used areas or rooms in the house including your garage, basement or attic.

Finally, remember that creating a system for house cleaning is all a matter of personal preference. If you're the type of person who cannot work with a messy desk, then you should make it a point to clean your office daily.

However, if there are smaller tasks which can do with a once-a-month cleaning, you can do it just like that: once a month, and spend the rest of your time dealing with the more urgent cleaning tasks that you can attend to.
